Karlya Smith is a New Zealand-based stylist, fashion columnist, costume and set designer, with 20 years experience.
Her qualifications include a Bachelor of Design (Fashion), and a Diploma (honours) in personal styling from the London College of Style. She studied illustration at Central St Martins.
Karlya has worked for most of New Zealand’s premium fashion publications on a freelance basis. Long-term roles included six years as Metro’s fashion director at large, and several years writing and styling editorial for Home magazine. A career highlight was costume designing two seasons of the award-winning comedy series The Jaquie Brown Diaries, under director Gerard Johnstone.
For the last decade Karlya has been a freelance fashion columnist and stylist of Shoe Of The Week in Sunday magazine. Karlya Sock is her side-project. She designs quality New Zealand made socks, as merchandise for her favourite musicians, as well as creating small runs of her own dream socks.
